Every year, Xu Bo offers two special awards. The Participant Travel Award is given to the volunteer, intern, or
high-school exchange student who receives the most votes from his or her peers. The Outstanding Staff Member Award
is also decided by votes from out participants and goes to a deserving Xu Bo staff member.
2010 Xu Bo Participant Travel Award Winner
We are pleased to announce that Alexandra Dreher was the winner with the most votes among all Xu Bo volunteers, interns, and high-school
exchange students! She is the recipient of a 4-day trip to Hong Kong, made possible by our friends at the
Shanghai Business International Travel Agency. The prize includes domestic airfare and hotel expenses.
Alexandra, who is considered to be a really nice and outstanding girl by all who know her, volunteers as a German
teacher in Tongji Affiliated Middle School. We asked her to say a few words about the honor she's received and
this is what she had to say: "Hello! My name is Alexandra and I am here in Shanghai now. I’ve
been here for five months with Xubo already. Last week, I got the notice that I was awarded a trip to Hong Kong and
I was very happy because I think it is a great honor for me, and for all the other volunteers as well. That’s the thing
I am most happy about and I am also excited about the trip, that it shows how much volunteers are appreciated here.
I will go to Hong Kong on the 18th of January. I think my experience here has been both surprising and so much fun. I have met very
nice Chinese teachers and have been teaching in a nice school. I am very happy to go to Hong Kong!"
Congratulations Alexandra and thanks for volunteering!
2010 Xu Bo Outstanding Staff Award Winner
The 2010 Outstanding Staff Member Award went to our hard-working, always-smiling and cheerful
Shanghai office housekeeper, Lily Zhu. Lily received more votes than any other staff member
and is clearly a favorite of so many Xu Bo participants (and staff too!) Without Lily's efforts, it
wouldn't take us long to become buried in our own clutter and her frequent visits to the office
and volunteers' sleeping quarters are greatly appreciated. The award of 3000RMB was presented to
Lily in January at the Shanghai office.
Congratulations Lily and thanks for all you do to make our
stay in China nicer (and cleaner)!
