Now, at the end of my stay, I feel sad. I will miss so many people from all over the world, my children, street noodles, etc. I think I developed in this 3 months like I never would be able to at home... This project was exactly the experience I needed and I will surely come back...

...teaching the kids was absolutely a kick; understanding grandfather's contributions to the community was very enlightening and satisfying; being with family in Chongming and Beijing was very heartwarming. Truly the best trip we have experienced.

I've mainly been teaching grade 5 and they've really been great. There's one class that likes to shout everything I teach them and there are groups of children in the class that seem to get the giggles when people speak English on their own.

I've been in Zhengzhou two months already and I can honestly say that so far it has been the richest and most rewarding experience of my life. Everybody inside and outside the school is very kind and helpful. Moreover speaking Chinese is giving me the opportunity of meeting a lot of Chinese people wherever I go.

There were the cornflakes in the picture and some pupils did not know them. I then decided to have a Western breakfast the next morning. The French Carrefour store was close to our flat. I got a box of cornflakes, simple bowls, toast, butter etc. The following morning we moved some tables together and pretended to be at the breakfast table.

Working as a volunteer teacher at Bibo Experimental Primary School in SuZhou was a fabulous experience. It was rewarding in many different ways... China is a very interesting and beautiful country with such kind people. Everywhere we met young people who wanted to practice English. I decided to return to China to work as a volunteer teacher of English.

The welcome I received at Yangtzi high school was fantastic; the students were very friendly and seemed really excited. My supervisor at the school was Jenny, who showed me the stunning flat the school provided for me during my stay. It had a double-bed, my own kitchen, living-room, television, computer and a massive garden with a pond, bridges and a pagoda in it!

If you asked me to describe my volunteer experience in one word, I would, without a doubt, say “unforgettable.” ...in the end, I think I learned the most out of the thousands of students I had the pleasure of interacting with. I don't regret spending my summer volunteering in Mianyang at all. It was one of the most memorable, worthwhile, and invaluable experiences I think I will ever have.

A normal day started depending on the lessons between 8.00 and 12.30. My first lesson began suddenly. I got my translated timetable and knew the classroom I had to go to. As I stepped in front of the Class a spontaneous hurricane of applause started. Obviously they seem to like their new German teacher with the long blond (“yellow”) hair (“like a Vampire”)

Every day I held some English lessons with them. Since they were young (between 3-6), I had to come up with games that would motivate them to speak English. It went very well, the children were highly motivated and had lots of fun. There is also always some teacher around you to give support if it is needed.
