Two-Week Group Volunteer & Travel Program in Albania

In the heart of the Mediterranean, on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Albania, the land of eagles, still relatively unspoiled by globalization, offers an inspiring mixture of civilizations and cultures. Our Albanian programs are offered through our partner organization - Experiment-Albania.

Arrival and Orientation

Group participants will be welcomed at the airport by a representative of Experiment-Albania. A two-day orientation will be provided upon arrival in Tirana. This program orientation will cover basic information about customs, values and daily life in Albania. A basic Albanian language course will be provided to the group participants, in order to enable them to communicate with the local people. This orientation concludes with the exploration of Tirana, the capital of Albania, visiting many cultural and historical buildings like National Historic Museum, Mosque of Et’hem Bej, etc.

Volunteer Projects

Group volunteer participants will spend one week working on a volunteer project in the city or in the village. Through this valuable activity, the group will make a contribution to the community, gaining new skills and experiences. Among the available projects are:

   working in an orphanage (playing with children, helping teachers or
      orphanage cooks, arranging the garden, painting classrooms or other rooms),
   working for different local NGO’s and their projects,
   working with street children and disabled people,
   community work in rural villages, or
   protection of environment.

Village Homestay in the North of the Country

For the itinerary in the North of Albania, the group participants will live with Albanian host families and will experience the famous “Albanian warm hospitality”, as it is illustrated by the Albanian expression: “Bukë, kripë dhe zemër” (Bread, Salt and warm heart). The homestay will be in Theth, a village in Northern Albania. The accommodation in the city of Tirana will be in hotel / hostel or in private apartment.

Camping in the South of the Country

For the itinerary in the South of Albania, the group participants will be accommodated in a camping site and will relax on the soft beaches of Albanian Riviera in the village of Jale. The volunteer projects in the south of the country are focused on the protection of the environment.

Travel and Discovery

Throughout the program, the group participants will explore and enjoy the natural wonders of Albania, including the most important historical and cultural places of this country. Depending to the itinerary of the program as explained below, the group participants will have the possibility to visit the museum of Gjergj Kastrioti Scanderbeg, the traditional bazaar and ethnographic museum in the city of Kruja, Rozafa castle, on the hill of Shkodra city, the archaeological site and the Archaeological Museum of Butrinti, the most visited site in Albania, etc.

Two Possible Itineraries This two-week program is offered with the option to choose between two different itineraries:

Itinerary 1

Day 1	Arrival at Mother Teresa International Airport and transfer to Tirana
Day 2-3	Two days orientation in Tirana, including basic Albanian language course and visits to cultural & historical places
Day 4	Full day visit in the city of Kruja, including visits to cultural & historical places and return back to Tirana.
Day 5-9	A five-day volunteer project in Tirana.
Day 10-13	Journey through the valleys of Albanian Alps in the north of the country; village homestay, exploring and swimming in Theth waterfalls, visit in the city of Shkodra and return back to Tirana.
Day 14	Departure from Mother Teresa International Airport

Intinerary 1 Start Dates

This first itinerary is offered every year during the period May – September. It can start every month beginning and month middle of this period.

Itinerary 2

Day 1	Arrival at Mother Teresa International Airport and transfer to Tirana
Day 2-3	Two days orientation in Tirana, including basic Albanian language course and visits to cultural & historical places
Day 4	Full day visit in the city of Kruja, including visits to cultural & historical places and return back to Tirana
Day 5	Full day visit in the city of Durres, including visits to cultural & historical places and return back to Tirana
Day 6-12	A six-day volunteer project on Jale village in the south of the country. Accommodation with be in the camping site nearby the seaside. The group participants will have the possibility to relax on the soft beaches of Albanian Riviera.
Day 13	Full day visit in city of Saranda & the famous archaeological site of Butrinti, one of the world's archeological wonders and a Unesco World Heritage site and return back to Tirana.
Day 14	Departure from Mother Teresa International Airport

Itinerary 2 Start Dates

This second itinerary is offered every year during the period Middle June – Middle September. It can start any month beginning and month middle of this period.
