We are currently in the process of liaising with some of the leading international companies in Shanghai. We are hoping to be able to place students coming out of their university courses in applicable internship placements. The companies with whom we are setting up these internship at this stage are hotels, architecture and design companies, and Public Relations companies. However, once these relationships are established we will be extending the program to other kinds of companies and if volunteers have a particular interest we will contact appropriate companies as needed.
Working in Shanghai is a truly unique experience and an internship in one of the fastest moving cities in the world is sure to be exciting. To be able to gain experience in their field of work will also help interns in the future to find a job, as will a reference from an international company! Highlights of the intern program include:

Although interns are not paid workers, during their placement, they will work a full working week. In some positions, such as the hotel industry, they may also be expected to occasionally work unusual hours or weekends. Most interns will likely be given simple tasks to start, but after being in their company for a while they will be given more responsibility and more exciting and challenging opportunities. Of course, expectations will vary somewhat from company to company but, in general, interns should expect to work very hard on their placement and take it very seriously.
Before starting their placements we will offer interns a one week orientation including 6 hours of basic Mandarin lessons, one culture course, and sightseeing around Shanghai. As well as allowing them to adapt to their environment this gives interns some time to get over their jet lag.
