We taught the same group of children for the entire duration of our stay, which was great because we really got to know them and to see their progress as the weeks went by.

"The kindergarten is a very nice institution for children and you will easily get to know the children. For the communication part, don’t worry - you always have your body language. They are very smart"

One World Project: Summer, 2009

During the summer of 2009 we had about 20 volunteers working in the kindergarten as English teachers. They did a very good job with their lessons and also organizing German, Dutch, Austrian, Belgian, Norwegian and Irish Days. Furthermore, they visited a lot of beautiful places here. All the volunteers say they enjoyed their teaching and visiting in Shanghai very much.

These were the goals for our "One World Project":

Help children in need
To gain teaching, working experience and an active exchange of culture in China
To enable people, communities and institutuions in china to benefit from working with volunteers.

One World Project is an activity to show all other foreign countries’ culture and their fantastic stories. Volunteers come to here to improve Chinese kids’ English level and let them know more about foreign cultural things through lessons and games. And also volunteers can learn more Chinese culture through the communication with kids and teachers. Furthermore, they will improve their leadership and organisational skills by single-handedly tackling this challenge. They can also improve their ability to communicate with others and manage time by organising the One World Day.

This year was already the 3rd year for One World Project. Until now, there were already more than 40 volunteers came to Shanghai to take part in the project. They help Chinese kids to improve oral English, played with kids together, organized One World Day, visited beautifull places and made many friends here. When they were about to leave, everyone of them don’t want to go and promise to come back again next year. By the way, the most attractive thing to them here is real Chinese food! It’ Yummy!

Hope you will be the next one to experience Shanghai and China!
