High School Exchange Program in Ireland

Xu Bo is now able to offer a High School Exchange Program through EIL in Ireland. This program is supervised by our partner in Ireland: EIL. Participants should be between 15 and 17 years of age and attend a high school in their home country. Participants must have at least a basic command of English.

The program includes the following:

An on-arrival orientation covering program issues, cultural introduction to life in Ireland, living with a host family, culture shock...

Full board and lodging with a host family for the duration of the academic semester or year. All families will be interviewed and selected on the basis of their interest in educational exchange and their ability to provide a positive home environment. Host families in Ireland are paid a hospitality allowance.

Enrollment in a local Secondary School
Return transfers from the recommended arrival airport to the host community
Host family accommodation
Support and counseling services by the local EIL representative and/or EIL staff member.
24 hour emergency telephone support from the EIL office in Cork.

Program Duration

Students can choose from program lengths of 15, 22, 26 or 40 weeks with start dates at the end of August and start of January each year.

Required Documents

The participant must submit the following documents:

   Experiment e.V. placement form
   A "dear host family" letter
A signed copy of our rules and regulations
   A medical report
   School progress reports
   Recommendation letter from your school
Recommendation letter from your English language teacher (if applicable)
   3 passport photos

Host Family

Full board and lodging with a host family for the duration of the academic semester or year. All families will be interviewed and selected on the basis of their interest in educational exchange and their ability to provide a positive home environment. Host families in Ireland are paid a hospitality allowance.

School

It is obligatory for the student to attend school throughout the entire duration of the program. Very often, but not always, the host family’s own children will attend the same school as our participants. On the basis of the submitted school certificates, the host school will decide upon the grade level the student will be placed in. Should the student require credits for certain subjects, it is very important that they indicate this in the application!

Program Rules/Disciplinary Action

We take our program rules very seriously and will exercise disciplinary action against those students who disobey these rules. Depending on the severity of the offence, we will issue a written letter of warning or probation, which is sent to the student, host family, local coordinator, partner organization and natural parents. Students who repeatedly disobey our program rules will be dismissed from the program without refund.

Orientation Seminar

Students will take part in an orientation seminar upon arrival. The orientation covers the nature of the program, the program rules, the cultural differences between the home country and Ireland, visa information, insurance, counseling and financial responsibility. All costs for the seminar are included in the program price. Transfer from the airport to the orientation seminar as well as transfer costs from the seminar location to the host family are included.

Spending Money

Participants are to bring their own spending money to cover their private expenses. Usually we recommend a monthly allowance of about 200 Euros.

Travel

Travel to Ireland should be arranged by the participant and participants should plan to arrive on the first day of the orientation seminar. Participants will be informed of the closest airport to the seminar location. Transfer from the airport to this location is arranged by our partners in Ireland. All participants will be picked up by their host families or will take the train to their new host town.

Insurance

Full health, accident and third-liability insurance can be arranged by our partners for an additional fee. The extent of the coverage and other insurance details will be discussed during the orientation seminar.
