In April 2010, Jessie Duanmu, program director of Xu Bo, sat down with reporters from a German newspaper
to discuss our high school exchange program. Jessie was interviewed in the office of DFSR, Xu Bo's
German partner for our High School Academic Year Exchange program.
The interview was made in the office of DFSR, our German partner for the
High School Academic Year Exchange. Starting in September DFSR will send 3
German high school students to China. Xu Bo will arrange for two of them to study with local
Chinese students for one year. A third will be placed in a high school in
Shanghai for one semester.
Jessie was asked what Xu Bo will do when the high school
students arrive in Shanghai. Jessie explained that Xu Bo will arrange pick-up at
the airport and transport to the Xu Bo volunteer flat where they will stay for
four days during program orientation. After orientation, they will move to their school.
During their placement, Xu Bo will be their China "parents", taking
responsiblity for their safety in China, providing help for their academic
activities at school, and helping them adapt to Chinese culture. During holidays, Xu Bo
will organise travel opportunities for the students.
When asked to explain more about what will happen during orientation, Jessie
explained that Xu Bo will provide important/useful information about China, Shanghai, and cultural differences
between China and the west.
The students will also learn about safety and health issues and what they can and cannot do.
